Who is the esteemed Chef Orlando Satchell?

Orlando’s Restaurant & Bar is the independent restaurant of choice in Soufriere, Saint Lucia for residents and visitors alike. Chef Orlando Satchell, an internationally renowned master culinarian delivers a five-star in-house dining experience to foodies who favour Caribbean cuisine. 

A celebrity in his own right, ‘Celebrity Chef Orlando’ as he is popularly known — is always happy to serve his customers. He routinely celebrates them and reciprocates the love which they have consistently shown him for well over forty years.

Chef Orlando relentlessly continues pursuing his goal of sharing the bold flavours of Caribbean cuisine with people all over the world.

Fortunately enough, the veteran chef is fully qualified to do this — as an award-holder of noteworthy titles such as Caribbean Chef of the Year, among others.

The charismatic food veteran was voted One of the Best Chefs in the region for 2018 and 2019 by Caribbean Journal — while Orlando’s Restaurant & Bar was later recognised as the only Caribbean restaurant to be observed as one of the best in the world by Travel & Leisure and Food & Wine.

The prominent dining establishment was at the time, the only Caribbean restaurant to have attained this accolade by the rated publication.

The annual World’s Best Restaurants list is a collaboration between Travel + Leisure and Food & Wine, which highlights the global achievements of food establishments best representing their communities’ spirit, culture and cuisine.

Satchell was once again presented with a 2019 Gault Millau France Award and secured the title as one of Trip Advisor’s Top Restaurants to Dine At in Saint Lucia on many occasions.

He has since secured other awards such as Trip Expert’s Experts’ Choice and Traveler’s Choice Awards, while being nominated for the Travel & Hospitality (THA)’s Food & Restaurant Awards 2022.

Added to these achievements, the chef represented Siant Lucia at the Caribbean Chamber of Commerce in Europe (CCCE)’s first inaugural ‘Caribbean Days‘ Caribbean Culinary Week Trade Show in Brussels Belgium in 2022.

The master of the kitchen and respected epicurean has from birth been gifted with gastronomic vision, which became evident from his very early years. He was inspired by his dear mother who he observed in the kitchen, whipping up a storm from regular food items.

He also gained much of his business inclination when accompanying her to market and being her apprentice as she bargained like a boss!

Apart from his mother and grandmother’s notable influence, these vital interpersonal skills, though innately a part of Chef Orlando’s personality, fuelled his development as a chef throughout the years.

The experience he gathered during his travels, working at key establishments and rubbing shoulders with game-changers within his professional and personal network — have all morphed into the business of Orlando’s Restaurant & Bar.
